What Zügle is

Zügle is a free, independent tool that estimates whether moving to a different Swiss apartment pays off. You give it a listing and your current housing situation; it compares rent, the income-tax difference between the two municipalities, commute time and cost, and a quality-of-living score.

It is run by one person as a side project. There is no company behind it, no subscription, and no guarantee of availability.

Not advice

Every figure Zügle shows is an estimate. Nothing here is tax, legal, financial or relocation advice, and you should not make a moving or financial decision on it alone.

Tax is personal. Your actual bill depends on deductions, assets, family circumstances and cantonal rules that this tool does not ask about. Before committing to anything, check with your municipality, your cantonal tax office or a qualified adviser.

Where the numbers come from, and how they can be wrong

  • Tax comes from the Federal Tax Administration's calculator. Zügle uses its detailed calculation from gross income, which lands roughly 11% below the figure the simple calculator returns for the same number, because that one treats the input as already-taxable income. Differences between two municipalities stay comparable; a single absolute figure should not be read as your tax bill.
  • Commute times and fares come from the public Swiss transport API. Fares are estimated from zone and distance and do not account for every pass, discount or combination ticket.
  • Listing details are read from the portal's own page, or from a page you pasted in yourself. Portals change their layouts and occasionally serve stale figures; always confirm rent and size against the listing itself before acting.
  • Search results shown while browsing a municipality are indicative only. They are never fed into a comparison.
  • Missing data abstains. Where Zügle has no figure for something, it says so and leaves it out of the score rather than scoring it zero — so a lower score means "worse", never "unknown".

Using the tool

Use it for your own housing decisions. Please do not attempt to break, overload or automate against it, work around the rate limits, or scrape it in bulk — it runs on a small free-tier server and there is no capacity for it.

You are responsible for what you paste in. Only submit listing pages you are entitled to view.

Third-party listings

Listings and their contents belong to the portals and landlords that publish them. Zügle does not host, verify, endorse or take responsibility for them, and has no part in any tenancy you enter into.

Where a listing or a placement is paid for, it is labelled as sponsored wherever it appears. Paid placement never changes a listing's own figures.

No warranty, no liability

Zügle is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. It may be unavailable, incomplete or wrong, and it may change or shut down at any time without notice.

To the extent permitted by Swiss law, no liability is accepted for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, this tool — including a moving decision that turns out differently than the estimate suggested.

Your data

You can use Zügle without an account; as a guest, what you enter stays in your browser and is gone when you close the tab. What is stored for account holders, who receives it, and how to export or delete it is set out in full on the page, which also carries the imprint.
