Tenro moves its seat from Bottmingen to Wollerau – the press figure against the ESTV calculator
In July 2025 the commercial register recorded a change of seat for four companies of the Tenro group: Tenro AG, Tenro Event AG, Tenro Holding AG and Tenro Investments AG. All four moved from Bottmingen in Basel-Landschaft to Wollerau in the canton of Schwyz. The articles were amended on 8 July 2025, the register entry followed on 17 July, and the Swiss Official Gazette of Commerce (SHAB) published it on 22 July 2025. The new address is Säumerstrasse 20c, 8832 Wollerau. This guide is about the companies only.
The company has not given a reason. The tax motive comes from the press: on 29 July 2025 Bilanz, citing CH Media, wrote that the reason for leaving "dürften die Steuern sein" (was probably taxes), and blue News spoke of a tax-optimised reorganisation. Neither headcount nor profit is public, so this guide prices an illustrative company and treats staff questions as "for anyone who works there or moves along".
The press figure against ESTV's
This case has a published tax figure, so it can be checked. Bilanz, relaying CH Media, quoted a comparison by the trust firm Nexova: profit tax of 11.76% in Wollerau against 15.87% in Bottmingen, and capital tax of 0.01% against 0.16%.
We ran the federal tax administration's (ESTV) calculator for 2026 on an illustrative ordinary company limited by shares (AG) with CHF 1 million of profit before tax and CHF 10 million of capital. The real taxable profit of the Tenro companies is not public.
| Location | Profit tax | Capital tax | Total per year | Profit tax as share of profit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bottmingen | CHF 130'506 | CHF 15'176 | CHF 145'682 | 13.1% |
| Wollerau | CHF 115'994 | CHF 0 | CHF 115'994 | 11.6% |
On these inputs Wollerau comes out CHF 29'688 a year cheaper (CHF 145'682 − CHF 115'994). Profit tax alone differs by CHF 14'512 (CHF 130'506 − CHF 115'994), and the rest is capital tax, which the calculator shows as CHF 0 in Wollerau.
Both sets of numbers point the same way but differ in size. The press gap is 4.11 percentage points (15.87 − 11.76); our profit-tax gap is 1.5 points (13.1 − 11.6). Neither is necessarily wrong, since they may not measure the same thing. Nexova's basis, tax year and treatment of the federal share are not published, and neither article defines the percentages. Ours is a statutory calculation from the official calculator, for a stated profit and capital in tax year 2026. A comparison built on a different basis can legitimately give a different gap. Both agree on the direction.
Pillar Two
If the group's consolidated annual revenue were at least EUR 750 million, a Swiss top-up tax would bring its effective rate to at least 15% (Ordinance on minimum taxation of large business groups, SR 642.161), and part of a statutory saving could be absorbed. The size of the Tenro group is not published, so we can't say whether this applies. The calculator ignores it, and Zügle does not compute its effect on any company's figure.
For anyone who works there or moves along
Whether any staff sit at the Wollerau address is not stated in any source we found. What follows is for anyone who does, or might. Two example households, not Tenro pay data, with CHF 130'000 gross income and no church tax, tax year 2026:
| Household | Bottmingen | Wollerau | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | CHF 23'632 | CHF 9'216 | CHF −14'416 |
| Married, two children | CHF 11'330 | CHF 3'477 | CHF −7'853 |
The difference is CHF 23'632 − CHF 9'216 = CHF 14'416 for the single household and CHF 11'330 − CHF 3'477 = CHF 7'853 for the family. Both are far outside the band Zügle shows in amber as "about the same". For someone who actually changes residence, tax is a real lever here.
The commute
From Bottmingen, Schloss to Wollerau, Zügle's fare tables put a monthly second-class pass at about CHF 399, the top national tier for journeys over roughly 70 rail kilometres. That is CHF 399 × 12 = CHF 4'788 a year. Check SBB for the real price.
When moving pays off
For one person who would otherwise commute from Bottmingen, moving to Wollerau drops the pass and lowers the tax. Rent is left out because we have no rent figures for this case.
- Single: CHF 14'416 less tax + CHF 4'788 no longer spent on the pass = CHF 19'204 a year.
- Married, two children: CHF 7'853 + CHF 4'788 = CHF 12'641 a year for one commuter.
Those sums are the room a higher Wollerau rent has to fit into before moving costs more than staying. What a flat in Wollerau actually costs is not covered.
The foundation
The press pieces of 29 July 2025 said the Roger Federer Foundation remained registered in Bottmingen. That was correct then. According to the SHAB of 2 December 2025, the foundation's seat has since moved to Zürich.
What these numbers leave out
- The company figures describe an illustrative AG, not the Tenro companies.
- The Nexova figures are reported through the press. Their basis is not published.
- The household figures are for tax year 2026, one income and no church tax.
- Nothing here is tax advice. Have a Swiss tax adviser review any decision.
